COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A rising tide lifts all boats. The garnered following and success in the last few years of the Switchbacks FC played a role in the decision to put a team in Colorado Springs.
According to UFL CEO Russ Brandon, "The Switchbacks obviously played a role in our thought process. So just look at the crowd here today. You know it's a crisp day, and people are out here in droves."
Fans were excited to meet their new football team, with the opportunity to buy new gear with the new Stampede logo.
Fans said that they loved that Colorado Springs was getting a brand new football team, and several had mentioned that they had already bought season tickets.
They hope that the new arrival of the team will bring more people downtown.
"Just give me a reason to come downtown. I don't come down as often as I'd like to and need to. Support local businesses, lots of bars and restaurants, before and after the game," Colorado Springs Resident Dustin Dally said.
Local businesses like Streetcar 520 were excited about the opportunity as well with the new team coming in.
"I think it's going to be something really exciting, especially with sports being something that brings people together so much. It's really been a lot of fun with the sports that are already there to see, like that sense of excitement. Everybody's really, like, pumped up for the same thing. People really love football." Streetcar 520 manager Elise Kubinski said.
The Stampede joins the Rhode Island Breakers as the 10th UFL team. The Stampede will take the field for their first game on April 11th.
